John is the Managing Director of Philanthropy for Petra Capital Properties and a Registered Representative of Saxony Securities, Inc. He specializes in philanthropic solutions for donor-based charities, endowments, and other non-profit organizations. John has over 40 years’ experience in providing real estate income solutions for both public and private real estate investors. John was instrumental in launching one of the country’s largest real estate investment sponsors that eventually listed on the NYSE.

Mr. Bishop joined Petra Capital Properties to help expand the company’s 1031 investment planning platform with a specific focus on philanthropic giving. John has combined his passion for investment real estate and philanthropy by creating a unique asset-based giving solution for non-profits and their donors. By combining traditional 1031 exchanges with securitized Delaware Statutory Trust (DST) property interests, non-profits and donors can create predictable streams of income to establish stability toward the fund-raising efforts of non-profit organizations.

John applies his vast real estate investment background to educate financial professionals about the unique benefits of 1031 DST portfolio investing and how investor-donors can reposition highly appreciated real estate holdings into diversified and passive income solutions.

He is a 1965 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and was commissioned in the United States Marine Corps following graduation. He served with the Third Marine Division in Vietnam.
