Luke began his career at Ernst & Young where he implemented various tax credit strategies for Fortune 500 companies, reducing their tax liabilities by more than $125 million annually. In 2013, Luke geared his career toward his lifelong passion of real estate and began working with a prominent public non-traded REIT in Dallas on the finance and acquisitions team. In this role, he structured joint ventures and managed two opportunistic real estate portfolios that encompassed all asset types throughout the US. Luke then transitioned into a position at a private equity firm focused on hospitality acquisitions and development. As director, he was responsible for leading the end-to-end acquisition and financing of deals, including deal sourcing, managing due diligence efforts, structuring debt and equity, and closing transactions. With a working knowledge concerning commercial real estate and hospitality and a keen ability to assimilate and analyze data, Luke can translate information to his clients in such a way that is both understandable and actionable.
Today as a Senior Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer with Petra Capital Properties, he’s responsible for developing new business and managing the company’s existing 1031 clients. Luke brings a unique combination of technical skills, diverse market knowledge, and an exceptional analytical prowess to his role.
Luke is a lifelong Texan who lives in Dallas with his wife, Sheridan, and their two children. A graduate from the University of Texas at Dallas, he holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in finance with an emphasis in quantitative finance and real estate. He is active in training the next generation of real estate professionals as a mentor and through structured workshops. In his spare time, Luke enjoys spending time with his family, stock and options trading, and wood working
